When did Jesus Atone for our sin?

There are many theories out there as to how a man’s sin is forgiven by God. According to the bible, there is only one way a man can be saved:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

(Rom 3:23-25)

The bible is clear on this topic. Man is sinful and falls short of the righteousness required to escape the just punishment of hell. The only remedy for this situation is the redeeming blood that was shed by Jesus upon the cross.

There are many false teachers such as Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Meyer, and the like that spew a totally different kind of redemption that can NOT save a man from hell. So here is the basis of what they are preaching:

  1. Jesus did NOT atone for sin upon the cross
  2. Jesus died both spiritually and physically for 3 days
  3. Jesus died and went to hell in our place
  4. Jesus atoned for sin by being beaten and abused by Satan and his Demons

Wow there are so many errors here and so easily rebuked. Let’s take these one at a time.

Jesus did NOT atone for sin upon the cross

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

(Rom 3:25)

Romans 3:25 is pretty clear that the propitiation for sin is through faith in the shed blood of Jesus…. period.!

Jesus died both spiritually and physically for 3 days

Jesus was both fully God and Fully man. When Jesus died on the cross, he died physically after physically suffering God’s wrath for every sin ever created by man. But Jesus did NOT die Spiritually. How do I know that for sure you ask?

And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

(Luke 23:42-43)

The reference of being spiritually dead means to be in a lost sinful state without possessing the promise of eternal salvation. When still on the cross, Jesus told the repenting thief that he would be in paradise with him that very day. How can Jesus be in paradise and hell at the same time. Furthermore, there is no supporting evidence that Jesus went into hell. Jesus went to paradise where the old testament saints were held, before their sin was atoned for, and set them free, including the repented thief!

Jesus died and went to hell in our place

There is nobody in hell today nor has there ever been yet to this day. Hell is described in the bible as a place reserved for Satan, his demons, and a place where all the lost will be sent at the Great White Throne Judgment. As for now, Satan and his demons roam the earth and NOT in hell. So if this is the case, how could Jesus be beaten and abused in hell for our sins….??

Jesus atoned for sin by being beaten and abused by Satan and his Demons

This has been refuted in that last section. There is one important thing to note here. In the Bible, the punishment for our sin was carried out by the Father (God) upon Jesus (The Son). In the false teacher version, The punishment for our sin was carried out by Satan and his demons upon Jesus. There is a huge difference between the two views.

Summary

So what are we to take from this and why does it even matter?

God had a plan from before our world was created, His plan is a plan of redemption to those who willingly love him. His plan was to demonstrate the vastness of his love for us by actually coming in a physical body and dying for us and thereby redeeming those who love him to spend eternity with Him. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13). In fact, the whole bible points to this sacrificial redeeming love He has for us. Any attempt to cheapen or short change God of this is … well … an evil act!

Now ask yourself, why would anyone want to change the words of the bible with their own? Especially when Revelation 22:19 says: ” And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

One should always question everything he hears, especially when it comes to eternal spiritual matters. There are doctrinal issues that are debatable and there are truths in which a man should NEVER compromise on. How a man is saved is one of those matters, if not the MOST IMPORTANT of those matters.
